Donald Trump's Ratings Peak Since Kamala Harris Entered Race: New Poll

Former President Donald Trump’s favorability ratings have improved, reaching their highest point since June, before Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race, according to a new Gallup poll.

The poll shows that while both Trump and Harris are viewed unfavorably by a majority of Americans, Trump’s favorability has risen since Gallup's August survey. In the latest poll, 46 percent of Americans view Trump favorably, while 53 percent hold an unfavorable view of him. This is a notable increase from August when only 41 percent viewed him favorably and 55 percent unfavorably.

Back in June, with President Joe Biden still in the race, 46 percent of Americans viewed Trump favorably, while 52 percent had an unfavorable opinion of him. Gallup did not release Trump’s numbers in July.

As the election nears, with just 48 days until November 5, both Trump and Harris are focused on capturing undecided voters in critical swing states. Current polling indicates a close race, with both candidates having a chance to secure the battleground states.

The Gallup poll also revealed that Harris’ favorability ratings are comparable to Trump’s. Harris is viewed unfavorably by 54 percent of respondents, while 44 percent view her favorably. Among independent voters, 44 percent view Trump favorably, while 53 percent view him unfavorably. In comparison, 35 percent of independents view Harris favorably, with 60 percent viewing her unfavorably.

This Gallup survey polled 1,007 Americans from September 3 to September 15, 2024, and has a margin of error of four percentage points.

Meanwhile, a YouGov/The Economist poll conducted after an ABC News debate in Philadelphia showed Harris leading Trump by four points, with 49 percent of registered voters supporting Harris and 45 percent backing Trump. Prior to the debate, the two candidates were tied at 45 percent each.

Trump is scheduled to hold a rally on Long Island, New York, a traditionally Democratic state. However, Republicans gained ground in suburban districts near New York City in 2022, which could play a significant role in the battle for congressional control.
