Vice President Kamala Harris sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Charlamagne tha God on The Breakfast Club, where they delved into her record, policies, and how she is perceived by the public. The conversation also touched on former President Donald Trump, his ties to Project 2025, and his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including reports that Trump sent COVID-19 tests to Putin during the pandemic’s peak.
Harris further alleged that, if elected, Trump intends to dismantle the Constitution. "You know what he says he’ll do? Terminate the Constitution of the United States," she stated. Harris pointed out the specific amendments Trump could undermine, saying, "The Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures, the Fifth Amendment, the Sixth Amendment, the 14th Amendment—all of these are at risk, and many of them were driven by movements led by Black Americans to ensure equal protection under the law."
While Harris warns of these constitutional threats, Trump’s rhetoric on this issue has been inconsistent. Harris seems to be referencing comments Trump made in 2022, when he falsely claimed widespread fraud in the 2020 election and suggested that even the Constitution could be discarded. In a Truth Social post on December 3, 2022, Trump wrote: "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."
These statements sparked widespread criticism, including from prominent Republicans such as Senator Ted Cruz. The White House also condemned the post, calling on then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy to take action. Trump later attempted to clarify his remarks, writing on Truth Social: "The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to ‘terminate’ the Constitution. This is simply more DISINFORMATION & LIES."
Despite Trump’s effort to walk back his earlier statement, his comments continue to raise concerns. While it's unclear if these words were more than typical Trump bravado, the potential for such drastic actions, as Harris highlights, remains unsettling. Trump's stance on the Constitution may not have seen significant follow-up, but the backlash suggests deep unease even within his own party.
