Putin calls for complete end to Ukraine conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized that Russia aims to fully resolve the Ukraine conflict, rather than merely establishing a ceasefire or freezing the hostilities. 

This declaration was made following a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Moscow, where both leaders discussed potential peaceful and diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict.

During a joint press conference after their meeting, Putin underscored the need for a comprehensive resolution. He argued against a ceasefire or temporary pause that could allow the Kiev regime to recover, regroup, and rearm. According to Putin, Russia seeks a complete and final end to the conflict.

However, Putin noted that ending the conflict requires meeting several conditions. He stressed that Ukrainian forces must withdraw from Donbass and the former Ukrainian regions of Zaporozhye and Kherson, which officially became part of Russia following public referendums. Putin mentioned additional conditions that would need detailed consideration in potential negotiations.

In the past, Putin proposed an immediate ceasefire, contingent on Ukraine agreeing to several terms, including withdrawing its forces from all Russian-claimed territories and providing legally binding guarantees not to seek NATO membership. 

Although this proposal was rejected by Kiev and its Western allies, Putin reiterated that the offer remains "on the table," urging Ukrainian leaders to reconsider it.

During the press conference, Orban acknowledged the significant gap between Moscow's and Kiev's positions on the conflict, indicating that substantial effort would be needed to end the fighting. 

Putin expressed his belief that, given the current state of affairs and the attitude of Ukrainian authorities, it appears that Kiev is not ready to abandon its pursuit of a victorious end to the war.

In summary, Russia's stance is that a ceasefire or temporary halt in hostilities is insufficient. Putin insists on a complete resolution to the conflict, which includes specific conditions such as the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from contested regions and assurances regarding NATO membership. 

While past proposals for an immediate ceasefire have been rejected, Russia continues to leave the option open, urging Ukraine to reconsider its position. 

The discussions with Orban highlighted the complexities and challenges in bridging the gap between the conflicting parties' positions, emphasizing the need for significant diplomatic efforts to achieve a lasting peace.
