Barbra Streisand's recent comment on social media about Donald Trump has quickly gained traction, with the Oscar-winning actress accusing the former president of "bragging."
On Wednesday, Streisand took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to commend President Joe Biden for his efforts in securing the release of four Americans who had been unlawfully detained in Russia. The 82-year-old actress and singer shared her gratitude with her 827,000 followers, writing, “I am so gratified that President Biden worked hard to get the four Americans unlawfully detained in Russia released.” She then added, “Remember Trump bragged they would never be released until he was President.”
In response to Streisand's remarks, Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump, told Newsweek, “Barbra Streisand hasn't been relevant in 30 years.” Streisand's comment sparked a range of reactions online. Supporters of Streisand expressed their approval, with X user Jackie B calling Biden an “amazing leader!!” Paul Quibell-Smith added, “Trump is both a loser and a specialist in failure, as opposed to Biden who is a man of integrity.” Carol Robertson chimed in, “Biden will be remembered as one of our finest presidents.” George Rowe suggested, “Somehow I think [Trump will] try to take the credit for it.”
Critics of Trump also shared their perspectives. A user named @B3man1 posted a screenshot of Trump’s reaction to the news, noting, “Trump is definitely NOT happy. It's always about him.” Trump himself took to Truth Social, the social media platform he launched after being banned from Twitter in 2021, to question the details of the prisoner exchange. He asked, “How many people do we get versus them?” and inquired about the nature of the individuals being released, wondering if they included “murderers, killers, or thugs.”
On the other hand, some users criticized Streisand's stance. Despite Biden’s announcement on July 21 that he will not be running for re-election in November, several commenters suggested that the prisoner release was a strategic move to sway voters. User @he244 wrote, “What you're really gratified about is that President Biden worked hard to use the four Americans as political pawns in an election year.” MimiMeemz found the timing of the trade “suspicious,” remarking, “My God. You lefties are so easy.” @LarryGreer20 speculated, “That just means Putin wants Kamala to win. This is not the flex you think it is Babs.” Jeff added, “I'm so glad you have an opinion on politics. Freedom of speech shows exactly who the idiots are.”
The prisoner exchange, the largest of its kind between Russia and the West, took place on Thursday. The White House reported that 24 prisoners were freed, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva.
Streisand has been a vocal critic of Trump. During a 2023 appearance on *The Late Show*, she told host Stephen Colbert that she would leave the country if Trump were re-elected. Following a failed assassination attempt on Trump on July 17, Streisand speculated that the assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, might have been motivated by Trump’s reputation as a “bully.” Streisand wrote on X, “Thomas Matthew Crooks was a registered Republican but, as it has been reported, he was bullied a lot in school. Trump has always been branded as a bully. Maybe that’s what motivated him.”
The attack occurred while Trump was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crooks, a 20-year-old kitchen worker, opened fire on the crowd, hitting Trump in his upper-right ear before Secret Service agents rushed him offstage. One rallygoer was killed, and two others were injured before Crooks was neutralized by a Secret Service sniper. The FBI is investigating the attack, but Crooks' motive has yet to be confirmed.
Since Biden has been president I've had to take money out of my retirement account to just live I lived comfortable with Trump president I don't know if my retirement savings can take four more years of Bidens shadow Harris.

Under Biden the American economy has improved and the rate of inflation reduced more than any other economy in the world.
