Mary Trump Makes New Request of Donald Trump

Mary Trump, the estranged niece of Donald Trump, took to social media on Saturday to address her uncle following his recent appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast.

As the GOP presidential nominee, Trump joined Rogan on "The Joe Rogan Experience" in an effort to connect with younger voters through unconventional media platforms like streaming services and podcasts.

During the episode, Rogan brought up whales, referencing Trump's earlier claims that wind turbines off the East Coast are responsible for unprecedented whale deaths. In response, Trump stated, "Well, they say the wind drives them crazy. You know it's a vibration because you have those, those things are 50-story buildings, some of them. The wind is rushing, things are blowing; it makes noise. You know what it is? I want to be a whale psychiatrist. It drives the whales freaking crazy. Something happens with them, but for whatever reason they're getting washed up on shore, and yet the environmentalists don't talk about it."

Trump initially raised these concerns during a rally in North Carolina in 2023, coinciding with conservationists’ warnings about whale deaths near proposed offshore wind farms. However, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has found no evidence linking offshore wind turbines to whale mortality.

In reaction to her uncle's remarks on Rogan's podcast, Mary Trump, known for her critical stance towards him, posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging him not to pursue a career as a "whale psychiatrist." She wrote, "Donald, on behalf of whales everywhere, please DO NOT become a whale psychiatrist."

According to NOAA, since 2016, there have been reports of "unusual mortality" among humpback whales along the eastern coast, with a total of 178 dead whales documented from Florida to Maine over the past six years. Following necropsies on approximately half of these whales, it was determined that about 40% of the deaths were due to human interactions, such as entanglement in fishing gear or collisions with vessels.

Benjamin Laws, the deputy chief for permits and conservation at NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources, stated, "There is no information supporting that any of the equipment used in support of offshore wind development could directly lead to the death of a whale. There are no known connections between any offshore wind activities and any whale stranding."

Furthermore, Trump has previously made unsubstantiated claims about wind turbines, stating in 2019 that the noise they produce could cause cancer. He remarked at a Republican event, "If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer." However, the National Library of Medicine has found no evidence linking wind turbines to serious health issues.
