Concerns about Donald Trump's health have been sparked by social media commentators following the release of footage showing the Republican presidential candidate climbing into a campaign-branded garbage truck.
In reaction to the video, one activist remarked that Trump "seems to be really struggling physically," while another commented that the former president has "deteriorated so much that he now moves like a drunk."
The footage, recorded in Wisconsin on Wednesday, depicts Trump donning an orange fluorescent safety vest as he enters the garbage truck. This stunt appears to be a response to President Joe Biden's recent remarks, which seemed to label Trump supporters as "garbage." Trump later wore the fluorescent vest at a rally in Green Bay.
A seven-second clip of the incident was shared on X by Matt McDermott, a pollster with Whitman Insight Strategies who focuses on progressive causes. He noted, "Trump seems to be really struggling physically." The video shows Trump leaning toward the truck and seemingly missing the door before appearing uncertain about his footing. McDermott's post went viral, garnering over 7,900 reposts and 3.7 million views.
Attorney Jeffrey Evan Gold, who has provided legal insights on CNN, reacted to the clip, saying, "Just gave right out there. I don't think he's going to pass the physical for the garbage job but at least he's trying." Canadian comedian Deven Green, using her satirical "Mrs. Betty Bowers" account, stated, "He's deteriorated so much that he now moves like a drunk." Former NBA player Rex Chapman questioned whether the footage would be covered by news networks that evening.
Political consultant Stuart Stevens, author of *The Conspiracy to End America,* pointed out the irony that "no city or state could hire Donald Trump as a garbage man, given he's a felon out on bail awaiting sentencing." Conversely, some commentators praised Trump's social media maneuver. Alana Mastrangelo, a reporter for Breitbart News, wrote on X, "Joe Biden calls millions of Americans 'garbage.' The next day, Trump gets picked up in Green Bay, Wisconsin by a garbage truck. He's playing chess. They're playing checkers." The "Libs of TikTok" account, managed by Chaya Raichik, added, "I love how the media are forced to cover Trump in a garbage truck. They must be losing their minds."
On Tuesday, Biden appeared to call Trump supporters "garbage" in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage" during Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. White House spokesperson Andrew Bates clarified that Biden aimed to criticize the "hateful rhetoric" from the Madison Square Garden rally rather than targeting Trump supporters as a whole.
During his remarks from the garbage truck, Trump compared Biden's comment to Hillary Clinton's infamous "basket of deplorables" remark directed at his supporters in 2016, labeling it "a disgrace." At the Green Bay rally, Trump humorously recounted how his campaign team convinced him to wear the orange vest by claiming it made him look thinner. Initially resistant, he said, "They got me. I said I want to wear it on stage. I may never wear a blue jacket again."
I'm 35 and even I find it difficult to climb into a truck without looking stupid, it's not a car that's designed to be easily accessible, if he was falling on flat ground like Biden I would see your point but for a guy who's likely never had to climb into a truck before it's only natural for him to struggle.
