Donald Trump Shatters Records: Four Shock Results on Election Night

Election night unfolded with several surprises that defied the predictions set by last-minute polls, with former President Donald Trump's unexpected victories in traditionally Democratic areas standing out as the most notable.

As of the publication of this article, Trump is on the verge of securing the presidency with 267 Electoral College votes, leading Vice President Kamala Harris, who has 224 votes. Trump needs just three more votes to reach the 270 necessary for victory. He has already delivered an early victory speech in Palm Beach, Florida, promising that his return to the White House would usher in a "golden age for America."

Trump has triumphed in numerous states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. However, it is in specific locations where his wins have surprised political observers:

Starr County, Texas:

Trump's victory in Starr County, Texas, was one of the most historic surprises of the night. For the first time since 1892, a Republican presidential candidate won the county, which has a large Hispanic population. Trump secured 57 percent of the vote in the county, reversing a trend that saw Clinton win in 2016 with 79 percent and Biden in 2020 with 52 percent. This shift reflects a broader trend where rural areas have increasingly leaned Republican. Trump carried Texas with 56.4 percent of the vote.

Carlton County, Minnesota:

Trump also made history by becoming the first Republican to win Carlton County, Minnesota, since 1928, defeating Harris by a margin of 3 percentage points. With over 95 percent of the votes counted, Trump received 20,746 votes. Historically, Minnesota has been a Democratic stronghold, having last supported a Republican in the 1972 election. In 2020, Biden won the state with 51.2 percent of the vote, while Trump secured 46.7 percent.

Berlin, New Hampshire

In Berlin, New Hampshire, Trump flipped the town, winning 52 percent of the vote to Harris's 48 percent. This was a significant change, as in 2020, Biden had won the town with 52.8 percent. Similarly, Clinton had carried the town in 2016. Trump’s ability to sway voters in this once-blue area highlights his strong appeal in various regions. Harris won New Hampshire overall with 51.1 percent of the vote.

Miami-Dade, Florida:

Miami-Dade, long considered a Democratic stronghold, became another surprise for Trump. For the first time since 1988, the county voted for a Republican candidate, with Trump winning 55 percent of the vote, ahead of Harris's 44 percent. This shift in the most populous county in Florida was a significant milestone, as it had supported Democratic candidates in every election cycle since 1988, including Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020. Trump’s win in this county further bolstered his success in Florida, where he secured 56.1 percent of the state’s vote.

Trump’s victories in these traditionally blue areas demonstrate his continued ability to expand his base of support, even in regions previously resistant to his message.
