Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban congratulated Donald Trump as the latest results show the former president leading in the U.S. presidential election.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Cuban wrote, "Congrats Donald Trump. You won fair and square. Congrats to Elon Musk as well."
Cuban, a strong supporter of Kamala Harris, contrasted with fellow billionaire Elon Musk, who has been vocal in his support for Trump. According to the Associated Press, Trump has secured 267 Electoral College votes, just shy of the 270 needed to clinch the presidency.
Recently, Cuban, an investor and former "Shark Tank" star, has actively campaigned for Harris, frequently appearing in the media to advocate for the Vice President. He previously characterized the election as less a contest between Trump and Harris than between Harris and Musk, who owns X, Tesla, and SpaceX. “Elon is running the ground game for the Republicans. That’s really what this race has come down to in the last two weeks,” Cuban told Fortune.
Cuban’s initial support for Trump in 2016 shifted as he grew concerned about Trump’s rhetoric. In an interview on *Stay Tuned with Preet*, hosted by former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, Cuban shared that he became increasingly uncomfortable with Trump’s leadership style.
“I remember asking him, ‘If you win, you’ll have to make decisions that affect lives. Are you ready for that?’ He didn’t respond,” Cuban recalled.
Cuban described a debate Trump declined to join on CNBC, encouraging Trump to visit businesses and connect with the public instead. Trump dismissed the idea, saying, “Mark, we don’t go to people’s homes or dinner tables.”
Cuban said this moment and Trump’s divisive public statements eventually changed his perspective. “I kept probing for policy substance, but there was nothing. The more he spoke, the more his divisive rhetoric, especially on immigration, became clear. That was it for me,” Cuban explained.
