Trump's New Border Czar Receives Death Threats

Tom Homan, recently appointed as President-elect Donald Trump's "border czar," disclosed that he and his family have been facing death threats since his appointment. During an interview on Fox & Friends, Homan revealed that his family is currently "not at home" due to safety concerns. Homan, who previously served as the acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director, was appointed by Trump on Truth Social. Despite these threats, he stated his commitment to his new role.

"That’s something we’re going to deal with. They’re not going to silence me or make me leave. This is the biggest national security vulnerability we’ve faced since 9/11. We must address it," he said. Homan affirmed, “They are not going to bully me away.”

Under his role as border czar, Homan’s mission is to oversee the strict enforcement of Trump’s immigration policies. He stated his intent to execute Trump's promise of the "largest deportation operation in history," beginning with individuals who have been legally ordered to leave but remain in the U.S. “I’ve been vocal on what needs to be done. When the president asked, ‘Would you come back and fix it?’ of course, I agreed.”

Addressing the issue of asylum rights, Homan clarified, “Asylum seekers have a right to see a judge. If a judge rules they must go home, then it’s our job to ensure that happens.”

Under the Biden-Harris administration, illegal border crossings have surged, with nearly 3 million recorded in fiscal year 2024, totaling over 10.8 million encounters during Joe Biden’s presidency, per the Department of Homeland Security. Homan's appointment signals an aggressive approach toward strengthening the U.S. southern border, combatting illegal crossings, and dismantling cartel operations. His success could be crucial to fulfilling Trump’s campaign promises on immigration.

In an interview with 60 Minutes, Homan asserted that mass deportations can occur without family separations, explaining, “Families can be deported together.” Family separation has been a contentious issue, involving children removed from guardians upon illegal U.S. entry.

Amy Fischer, director of refugee and migrant rights at Amnesty International USA, criticized Trump’s immigration stance, saying, “President-elect Trump is promoting policies that disregard human rights, dignity, and family unity.” She added, “These policies are rooted in racism and xenophobia, aimed at causing suffering to those seeking safety in the U.S.”

Reports also link Homan to a controversial conference organized by white nationalist Nick Fuentes, who has a history of Holocaust denial. Fuentes previously dined with Trump and Kanye West at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
