How to Watch Donald Trump's Speech at Mom's for Liberty Summit

Former President Donald Trump is set to address the national parents' rights group, Moms for Liberty, in Washington, D.C., on Friday. This marks a return for Trump after he previously pledged to the group that he would eliminate the Department of Education if re-elected.

Trump will deliver his speech at the third annual National "Joyful Warriors" Summit in Washington, D.C., on Friday, August 30, at 8 p.m., as a special guest. Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, mentioned to Fox that the event would have a "more relaxed setting."

"We're going to be able to have discussions with him about the things we're concerned about," Descovich said.

Last year, Trump spoke at the organization’s national convention in Philadelphia, where he promised to abolish the U.S. Department of Education and proposed making school principals an elected position. He also accused the "radical left" of "slandering Moms for Liberty as a so-called hate group."

"Moms for Liberty is no hate group," Trump asserted. "You are joyful warriors, fierce patriots. You're not a threat to America."

The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled Moms for Liberty as an extremist hate group, noting its ties to the Heritage Foundation, authors of Project 2025. The organization has also drawn criticism for inviting members of the Oath Keepers to its events and for supporting chapter members who quoted Adolf Hitler.

Trump had also vowed last year to cut federal funding for any school promoting "critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children." The current Republican Party platform advocates for universal school choice, merit-based pay for teachers, and an end to teacher tenure.

Moms for Liberty gained prominence by leveraging parent frustrations with school safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the group has endorsed and funded campaigns for conservative school board candidates nationwide. Descovich believes the election could hinge on suburban moms and the myriad of issues they face.

"80% of moms and dads and everyone across the country agrees with us on our issues," Descovich stated. "The Biden-Harris administration is tied 100% to the teachers' union. They buddy up."

In 2022, roughly half of the Moms for Liberty-endorsed school board candidates won their elections. However, efforts to mobilize against the group's candidates have resulted in significant losses for them in Florida school board races this year.

In May, the conservative group announced plans to spend over $3 million on multi-state advertising to boost membership and election engagement leading up to November.

The 2024 national summit for Moms for Liberty is taking place from Thursday, August 29, through Sunday, September 1. The organization anticipates "hundreds of moms, dads, and friends for three days of training, strategizing, and building relationships."

Other notable speakers at the event include former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and conservative political commentator Glenn Beck, CEO of Blaze Media.
