Judge Chutkan Order Scolds Donald Trump for 'Political Rhetoric'

Judge Tanya Chutkan has once again reprimanded Donald Trump, this time for injecting "political rhetoric" into his latest court filing. The rebuke comes after Trump’s legal team sought to censor additional details in the heavily redacted document tied to his election fraud case. Chutkan, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., rejected this request, ordering the evidence to be unsealed. In her Wednesday ruling, she noted that Trump’s arguments strayed from addressing legal matters and instead focused on partisan attacks.

"Defendant's opposition brief repeatedly accuses the government of bad-faith partisan bias. These accusations, for which Defendant provides no support, continue a pattern of defense filings focusing on political rhetoric rather than addressing the legal issues at hand," Chutkan wrote.

Trump faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction, and conspiracy against rights. These charges stem from his alleged efforts to pressure state officials to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Trump, however, has consistently denied the allegations, claiming to be the victim of a politically motivated prosecution. He has accused Special Counsel Jack Smith of trying to influence the 2024 presidential election through this legal action.

Chutkan went on to criticize Trump's defense team, stating, "Not only is that focus [on political rhetoric] unresponsive and unhelpful to the court, but it is also unbefitting of experienced defense counsel and undermining of the judicial proceedings in this case." She further urged that future filings remain focused on the legal issues rather than political commentary.

This is not the first time Chutkan has criticized Trump's legal filings. In September, she rejected a request from Trump’s lawyers to limit Smith’s evidence memo to just 45 pages, calling their filing "incoherent" and filled with irrelevant arguments.

In late August, Smith updated the indictment to align with a Supreme Court ruling that grants immunity to sitting presidents for certain "official" acts, removing accusations related to Trump's alleged pressure on the DOJ to falsely claim election fraud in 2020.

    1. Because it’s America and money talks and is held above all else, in other countries this rampant criminal and sex offender would have been behind bars decades ago. America is good at manipulating or covering up evidence when it comes to the minorities or less well off white citizens as shown in the percentages of minorities falsely imprisoned even being placed on death row and some actually being executed before their cases could be retried. Most of these cases was down to incompetence and a racist judicial system which still continues today especially in Red states.
