Unsubstantiated claims of late-night election interference in battleground states began circulating Tuesday night after early vote tallies showing Donald Trump in the lead shifted as additional ballots were counted.
A video showing trucks arriving at a Pennsylvania counting center, aired by MSNBC, was paired with unfounded claims that Democrats would fraudulently alter the state’s results in favor of Kamala Harris.
On X (formerly Twitter), a video appeared to show new ballot trucks arriving during the night with Trump leading Pennsylvania with 92% of the votes counted. Despite a lack of supporting evidence, social media users claimed the footage was proof of fraud.
Elsewhere, comedian Roseanne Barr responded to a post on X stating that Pennsylvania officials expected a “big drop” of absentee ballots that night, adding, “Cheating incoming.” She later urged her followers to record the supposed “cheating,” warning, “They will not gaslight us this time. Watch ballot drops. Stay up. Film. Record.”
Actor Kevin Sorbo, a vocal Trump supporter, contributed to the commentary, posting on X, “CBS News is saying that Pennsylvania and Arizona will take until Thursday to count. Hell no. Call it. No cheating this time.”
Conservative commentator End Wokeness, previously debunked by Newsweek for claims of election fraud, also shared the MSNBC footage in a post viewed over 2.5 million times, writing, “Trucks full of ballots pulling up at 12am in Philly. Nothing to see here, folks.” In response, user Sara Rose claimed, “Philly and Detroit are cheating. They’re going to do everything they can to rig the election.”
In a preemptive move, Donald Trump raised suspicions about possible cheating in Pennsylvania, writing on Truth Social on November 5: “A lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia. Law Enforcement coming!!!” Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner dismissed Trump’s claims as baseless, stating, “There is no factual basis whatsoever within law enforcement to support this wild allegation.”
Krasner added, “If Donald J. Trump has any facts to support his wild allegations, we want them now. Right now.” Meanwhile, CNN confirmed that the Philadelphia Police Department was “not aware” of any voting issues that required law enforcement intervention.
Trump’s unsupported claims about a “stolen” 2020 election seem to have inspired supporters to monitor the 2024 election with heightened suspicion. The New York Times reported that conservative influencer James O’Keefe organized election monitors to secretly film ballot counting across the U.S.
Adding to the distrust, conservative commentator Steven Crowder posted a video on X of trucks seemingly delivering ballots in Pennsylvania, captioning it: “🚨 PENNSYLVANIA ALERT🚨 THE FATE OF OUR NATION IS IN A MYSTERIOUS BOX TRUCK CONVOY! NEW WORKERS ARE COMING IN TO COUNT VOTES. We are following this closely.”
On Tuesday morning, several ballot scanners malfunctioned at polling locations in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of State confirmed it was coordinating with Cambria County officials to resolve the technical issues promptly.
